At long last, Toshiba has revealed it’s new Libretto laptop that will be succeed the U100, which whilst being a fantastic machine, is a little dated at almost 5 years since the original release date.

Toshiba has now revealed information about their new Libretto W100 laptop, which is almost more of a cross between a tablet computer and a laptop.

(thanks Hal|dor for digging up the specs) :-)

It is interesting that Toshiba decided to use Windows 7 for this laptop, based on it’s size and touch nature, Android would seem like a very good fit, although I’m sure someone will port it regardless of whether it ships as a Windows-only device or not.

Linux on U100 – Fedora 9

Today I foound a very interesting link in my mailbox.  That link, to Jethro Carr’s Toshiba Libretto u100 pages, offers you some general information about the U100.

Even more interesting is his very useful guide on how to install Fedora Linux 9 on your U100. Apparently there are some serious issues with WIFI, Bluetooth and CPU frequency scaling. Jethro does a great job with his well documented guide on compile a new kernel for your system.

Reading through his other pages, you will understand why he chose Fedora to be installed on his Libretto.

Philip Nienhuis 110 CT Page

One of the most usefull pages about running multiple operating systems on a Libretto is the Philip Nienhuis 110 CT Page.

Philip explains how to install Windows 2000, Linux mandrake and OS/2 on a 60 GB harddisk. Throughout his how-to you’ll find several very usefull links, tips and other stuff abnout the 110 CT.

Thanks to Philip, all his usefull links and bookmarks about the Toshiba Libretto will be available soon on Librettoworld.com.

Visit this very interesting page froma fellow Dutchman on: http://home.hccnet.nl/pr.nienhuis/Lib110CT.html.

Toys Wiki: Libretto L1

The Toys Wiki is about installing Linux on a Libretto L1 series. This page contains lots of info, details and links about the installation of linux on a Libretto L1 model. As I’ve never seen a L1 model before, I cannot test the how-to’s on these pages, but I know for sure that the Toys Wiki s one of the most useful website on the net about installing Linux on your L1.

Ottaky.com

Always wanted toinstall Linux on your Libretto 70CT? Visit Ottokay.com and learn how to use another Toshiba notebook to install Suse linux on you little friend. Very comprehensive page of theinstallation and configuration of of Suse on your Libretto. Should be usefull for your 100 or 110 CT also.

Librettowelt.de

For German speaking Libretto lovers, Librettowelt.de is the place to be for all your Libretto questions and answers.

Besides the usuall information about the different models, operating systems and software there is a little forum, where people are still posting all kind of problems, etc about the Libretto.

My knowledge about the German language is not that good to give my opinion about the content, but for the German speking visitor of Librettoworld.com is should be a must visit.

Libretto 110CT – Joseph's Site

If you own or want to own a Toshiba Libretto 110 CT you have to pay a visit to Josephn.net. Joseph has build a very usefull one-page website about his Libretto, with lots of good tips, links and a few nice pictures.

Joseph focus is on Windows OS installation and multimedia, as far as you can talk about multi in case of a Libretto 110 CT. Very usefull information about how-to install Windows 2000 or XP, booting from PCMCIA and what software to use for turning your Libretto into a real multimedia station!

Finally, Joseph offers 2 downloads a 110 / 100 CT owner will most certainly appreciate, like the official 100 CT Manual in PDF format.

The Adorable Libretto

One of the most usefull sites for older Libretto models and for general and technical information about the Toshiba Libretto must be the Adorable Toshiba Libretto website.

On these pages you can find the complete history of the Libretto (must see!), harddisk replacements, special software and several usefull links for your (older) Libretto. Unfortunately, some of these links are to Japenese sites, so a lot of people will not be able to understand very much of that information.
